In traditional Chinese medicine, this formula is used to dispel wind and cold, warm yang, and open the nasal passages. It is commonly applied for nasal congestion, clear watery discharge, frequent sneezing, nasal itching, heaviness of the head, or reduced sense of smell caused by invasion of wind-cold or deficiency of yang qi. It may also be accompanied by chills, cold hands and feet, or aggravation upon exposure to cold. It is suitable for people with a cold-prone constitution, those sensitive to wind and cold, and individuals with chronic rhinitis or recurrent nasal congestion and runny nose. This formula focuses on warming yang and dispersing cold while unblocking the nasal passages, helping to relieve nasal obstruction, improve airflow and olfactory function, and restore warm, smooth breathing. 
 
Selection Tip: Treatment can follow a two-step approach. Step 1: Address the symptoms by choosing according to the current pattern. If the discharge is clear and watery, worsening with cold exposure, indicating cold, choose Bi Yan Wan. If the discharge is yellow and thick with burning nasal congestion, indicating heat, choose Bi Yan Pian. Step 2: Strengthen the body. For those prone to sneezing, nasal itching, or recurrent symptoms triggered by wind, seasonal changes, or alternating hot and cold weather, choose Te Xiao Bi Min Gan Wan (Allergy Season Form) for long-term regulation to balance body constitution, strengthen defensive qi, and reduce recurrence.
